The Doon School

Model United Nations

Letter from the secretary general

Dear Esteemed Delegates and Faculty Members,

I am delighted and honored to extend my warmest invitation to the 16th edition of The Doon School Model United Nations Conference. As we prepare to host this prestigious conference, we are proud to continue the legacy of DSMUN as a platform for young leaders from across the globe to come together for meaningful dialogue and discourse.

Over the years, DSMUN has earned its place as one of the most sought-after Model United Nations conferences on the continent. Being the largest student-run conference in Asia year after year, we have seen over 450 delegates from different backgrounds and cultures come together to engage in fierce yet quality debates, diplomatic lobbying, and ceaselessly scrutinizing opposing blocs. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, our resolve to uphold DSMUN's reputation for excellence remains strong as ever as we prepare to host an offline conference after a four-year interlude.

The Conference holds a unique significance for us at The Doon School, as it serves as the largest and most prestigious social event on our academic calendar. Over the years, it has come to represent a part of our identity, one that we are proud to share with our peers from across the region. As I pen this letter, Doscos are tediously toiling and relentlessly working on gearing up for the most exciting and awaited MUN conference of the year. Cloaked in ivy and vine, the brick wall of Chandbagh acts as a bastion, within which lies the verdant foliage and sprawling lawns of The Doon School campus, awaiting delegates from across the globe.

We are living in an age where we are bombarded with an overwhelming amount of information every day, and the proliferation of technology has led to a blurring of lines between reality and fiction. DSMUN'23 is here to bridge this gap between reality and fiction. With our fiery and engrossing committee agendas, we aim to have intense debates leading to peaceful resolutions. Our diverse slate of committees covers some of the most pressing issues of today - from the ongoing banking crisis in the West to the growing criminalization of the LGBTQI+ community - while also addressing fascinating historical events in the Cabinet of Mikhail Gorbachev and the Indo-Pak Commission. Each of these committees will challenge you to think beyond the boundaries of conventional wisdom and offer a new perspective to take beyond this conference.

Our theme for DSMUN'23 is "Where perspectives converge, solutions emerge," and along these lines, as young leaders, we are about to inherit a world that is becoming increasingly fragmented. We take great pride in our commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse community at DSMUN. We believe that only by embracing different voices and perspectives can we truly drive change and create a better world.

In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt invitation to all of you to join us at the 16th edition of the DSMUN conference. Our team is committed to providing a stimulating, informative, and impactful conference experience, and we look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus.

Letter from the president

Greetings Delegates and Faculty Members!

As the President of the Doon School Model United Nations Society, it gives me immense pleasure to invite you all to the 16th Edition of the Doon School Model United Nations Conference. It is an honour to be at the pinnacle of a conference that finds itself amidst the top ranks in the country, both in terms of global outreach and quality of discourse. It is with tremendous enthusiasm that we are hosting this conference physically after a three-year hiatus due to the unprecedented circumstances that followed the Covid-19 era. We at Doon are striving to ensure that this edition of the DSMUN conference will exceed former ones; in terms of organisational skill, calibre and participation, not just from the South Asian region but from around the globe. It is with this vision in mind that I extend my heartiest welcome to each one of you for this year’s conference.

The scope of this year’s DSMUN conference will not remain confined to conventional committees. Keeping this in mind, we have expanded DSMUN’s committee choices and have incorporated some bold and unique ideas. With the introduction of extremely stimulating committees such as The Indo-Pak Commission,  Cabinet Of Mikhail Gorbachev and Emergency Response Cabinet, we aim to pull off a conference not limited to one’s imagination, but rather influenced by the willingness to cross paths and align with a world-view that humanity can be proud of.

This year’s committees are aimed at developing potential proposals relevant to the post-Covid-19 era: both of global and national importance. Discussions on the context of historical events allow one to explore the multitude of possibilities and find answers to the fundamental question of ‘what if’. Having said so, the essential Model UN committees remain intact, providing an interesting challenge in terms of debate, wit and diplomacy to one and all.

As for myself,  I am currently surviving the ISC curriculum and am generally inspired by Economics and History. I deeply enjoy playing sports, be it basketball or football. If not on the sports field, you can probably find me engrossed in the Art School, letting my imagination run wild. I serve as a Prefect of Jaipur House and as the Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook, one of the school’s flagship publications.

Looking forward to seeing you all in August.

Warm Regards,

Vivaan Malik
