The Doon School

Model United Nations Conference

2024

Letter from the SECRETARY-GENERAL

Dear Delegates and Distinguished Faculty Members,

I am pleased to extend my heartfelt invitation to the 17th edition of The Doon School Model United Nations Conference. This conference has a profound legacy as a torchbearer of intellectual discourse and diplomatic engagement. For nearly two decades, it has stood as a testament to the power of dialogue, collaboration, and visionary leadership in addressing the most pressing challenges of our world.

DSMUN has become one of the premier Model United Nations conferences in Asia. It has served as a platform for the exchange of ideas, the forging of friendships, and the cultivation of diplomatic acumen among young leaders from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our unwavering commitment to excellence remains steadfast as we prepare to convene for this edition of DSMUN.

For the students of The Doon School, DSMUN is not merely an event but a cornerstone of our academic and social fabric. It is a sign of our commitment to fostering a culture of intellectual inquiry, global citizenship, and compassionate leadership. As preparations unfold within the four walls of Chandbagh, the spirit of anticipation and excitement reverberates through every corridor and classroom, continuing our enduring legacy of DSMUN.

In an era of unprecedented challenges and uncertainty, the need for cooperation and mutual understanding has never been more crucial. As we convene for the 17th edition of DSMUN, let us reaffirm our shared commitment to these fundamental principles that maintain peace in the world. Let us seize this opportunity to rise above borders, bridge divides, and set a course toward a more just, and sustainable world.

This year, we hope to provide you with spirited debates which lead to harmonious resolutions through our range of committees and dynamic agendas. This year we offer committees such as the International Olympic Committee, COP 29, and Lok Sabha, which grapple with contemporary challenges ranging from the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

From political polarisation and economic disparities to cultural divides and ideological clashes, our world is marked by several divisions that threaten to undermine our collective progress. At DSMUN 24, under the theme 'Musings of a Divided World, Resolutions of a United One', we plan to embark on a journey to navigate through violent conflicts towards peaceful collaboration.

I extend my most sincere invitation to each of you to join us for this momentous occasion. Together, let us embark on a journey of discovery, dialogue, and transformation!

Warm Regards,
Aryavardhan Agarwal

Greetings Esteemed Delegates and Faculty Advisors!

I extend my heartiest welcome to all of you to the Doon School Model United Nations Conference 2024! Spearheading a conference that ranks among the best in the country in terms of richness in discourse and global outreach is an honour. We are thrilled to be hosting this conference following an insightful and highly successful DSMUN’23, with enriching all-around debate and, more importantly, establishing an unparalleled bond among delegates.

You see, DSMUN is more than a mere conference. Most of the Doscos consider it an integral part of who they are. Undoubtedly, the conference is our school's finest and most awaited event, and just like every other year, the DSMUN fever is more prevalent than ever: while I draft this letter, people here are feverishly labouring to meet deadlines and make every effort to make this year's DSMUN stands out over former ones; in terms of organisation, quality, and participation. Bearing this aspiration and vision in mind, the Secretariat is thrilled and honoured to host you all this August.

Conventional committees will not be the only area of focus within the DSMUN conference this year. We have added some bold and distinctive ideas to the DSMUN committee selection process, by initiating stimulating committees such as the Groves’ Cabinet, The International Olympic Committee, and the COP29. We collectively aim to produce a conference which is inspired by the willingness to connect and share a worldview that humanity can be proud of, rather than being constrained by the limits of one’s imagination.

This year, the committees are working to come up with plausible proposals that are both nationally and internationally significant and pertinent given the times we live in. For instance, contextualising historical events through dialogue enables one to investigate a wide range of scenarios and provide answers to the central theme of the conference. Having said that, the essential Model UN committees persist and offer everyone a stimulating intellectual, witty, and diplomatic challenge.

With that, I look forward to seeing you all in August for a riveting discourse and experience!

Warm Regards,

Divyaansh Surana
